Description: Cantaloupe is a source of vitamins A and C, which are antioxidants that may reduce your risk of heart disease and certain cancers. Vitamin A helps maintain eye health. Vitamin C helps protect skin from bruising, helps heal cuts and keeps gums healthy. Eating foods with vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. Cantaloupe also provides potassium and fiber. Potassium helps maintain healthy blood pressure, and fiber helps control cholesterol and keeps you regular.

Selection: Choose firm melons with no soft spots. Cantaloupe should have a sweet smell where the fruit separates from the stem of the vine.

Storing: Ripened melons in the refrigerator and use within 3 to 5 days.

Preparation: Wash the outside of the melon, slice and remove seeds from center of melon.

Serving: Cantaloupe is good raw or mixed with other fruits.
